European Political
"Accident"
The Meaning of "Right Wing"
Advance
An "accident" is occurring in European politics.
The French general election done on 9th and 16th represented it. In this election, so-called left (the Socialist Party and the Communist Party) and liberalist group were retreated or defeated, and "conservative" overwhelmed it.
However, the dominance of French "conservative" is not an accident but one part of general trend in Europe. The similar processes have progressed in Austria, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, the Netherlands from the end of 1990's. In these countries, the existing "left government" (even if to say so, it is so-called "center-left") was all collapsed, and the government of "the conservatives" appeared in behalf of it.
Why, what was the back ground?
A single currency was to be born in the European Union (EU) from this year, and for the purpose each country was forced a tight fiscal policy. At the precise moment, angry waves of globalization attacked, the naked law of capitalism carried through, and restructuring, unemployment, the difference of poverty and wealth have begun to stand out.
In the background of deepening contradiction of capitalism, the nationalist group, antiforeignist group of the European countries "progressed" with fanning the flame of antiforeignism by turning the dissatisfaction of workers and petit bourgeois and the uneasiness of unemployment toward emigrants and foreign laborers in stead of the rule of capital, foreseeing the corruption and impuissance of the Socialist Party and the Communist Party.
"The right wing" government born in many European countries now was just
getting catch on such a trend.
Therefore they strengthen the movement to
regulate emigrant or to impose the duty to learn the language of own country to
the permanent residence applicant all at once. The Italy Lower House
approved the bill to impose duty of fingerprinting to the workers from external
EU, and French President Chirac proposed "peace and order reinforcement" at full
gallop when reelected.
Such a movement is applied to the workers from external EU and the movement for a time, and does not seem to go to the attack to EU and the joint currency yet. However, if the tendency of antiforeignism and nationalism would be strengthened, EU and the trial of the joint currency might face a serious "test."
As shown in France general election of this time figuratively, the fall of the Socialist Party and the Communist Party is decisive. Because the Communist Party also occupied only the position of an appendix of "the center-left" (bourgeois reformist) government, it was natural that the powerless or failure of this government appeared as the disappointment and retreat of support to the Communist Party.
The Japanese workers must learn many things also from European politics
because the similar process goes along in Japan, and will go along more in the
future.
